This fall (2009) Mountaingear.com is having a “Price Freeze,” a sale on winter gear and clothing. Online shoppers can find discounts on both men’s and women’s clothing, such as:

  • Fleece hats and beanies

  • Fleece jackets

  • Sleeping pads

For instance, men’s down booties from Sierra Designs, which were originally priced at $49.95, are now being sold for $29.98. Also, the Mammut Stratus hooded jacket has been reduced in price by over one hundred dollars, from $219.00 down to $109.97. • Patagonia
  • Kavu
  • Outdoor Research

One of the jackets being sold at a reduced price includes the North Face Miwok fleece jacket. It is currently being priced at $90.25, instead of the original price, which was $128.95.

Deals on Gear at REI Outlet.com

REI has a web-based outlet store, with deals on gear everyday. Some of the features include items that are priced under twenty dollars and also under fifty dollars. There’s a section for fifty-percent off items, a deal-of-the-week, and “Made in the USA” gear. It’s even possible to get free shipping when one mails to a local REI store.

Tips for Buying Outdoor Gear Online

When buying outdoor clothing and equipment on the internet, take these suggestions in mind.

  • Do the research: read the product descriptions carefully. Sometimes sites provide 360 degree views of products. Also, there may be ratings for the product, with descriptions.
  • Compare prices: look at different sites and compare for the best price.
  • Check independent reviews: what are others saying about the product? Use a search engine to find comparisons.
  • Check the return policy: If that pair of boots or new jacket doesn’t quite fit, it is good to know what the company’s return policy is. Usually there is a return policy on most goods except for climbing equipment.

This fall, take advantage of online retailers for finding some great deals. For more information on some of these current discounts, visit the retailer’s website.
