Companies that have discounts on equipment and tips for making returns on gear.
Now that Christmas has come and gone, shoppers are out looking for bargains on discounted retail items. Outdoor equipment retailers are offering great deals. For those who want to return or exchange purchases, each store may have specific requirements.
REI is currently having a clearance sale on clothing for men, women, and children. They also have items for camping, traveling, and shoes. One of these reduced-priced items is the Jetboil. A favorite among outdoor adventurers who have an addiction to coffee, this combination boiler and mug quickly boils water for a hot drink or soup. Originally sold for $89.00, the price is now down to $66.69.
With stores spread across New England, EMS has discounted items in its clearance section, such as 40% markdown on different styles of Spy sunglasses. In addition, the company is advertising a guided trip up Mt. Washington from December 29-30, which includes dinner and breakfast, as well as a talk from the Mt. Washington Observatory staff.
Always a place to find good deals, Sierra Trading Post is offering a 60% discount on footwear and equipment, and 70% off on apparel and home items. Note that these discounts apply for items for sale on the web. One of the items marked down are the Scarpa Vision V climbing shoes for both men and women. Advertised as being appropriate for sport routes or climbing gyms, the shoes originally sold for $109.00. They are now being priced at $43.00.
Cabela’s is an outdoor equipment retailer that specializes in merchandise for hunters and fishermen, as well as general outdoor gear. Right now they are having a mid-winter sale with up to 60% off their products. This could mean an opportunity for the hunter in the family to find a deal on clothing, rifles/shotguns, and other fieldsport needs such as bird callers and decoys.
Outdoor stores will do gear returns, but check with the web site or call the store for their polices. Many are flexible with returns, especially if the equipment has not been used out of the house. For instance, if one received a new pair of hiking boots, wear them around the house for a while to determine if they properly fit. If they don’t fit and the boots have not been worn outside, the store may take them back. The exception to this would be rock climbing equipment, such as harnesses, hardware, and ropes. Most stores have a no-returns policy on climbing gear for liability reasons.
